Planning a Themed Wedding in Lakes Country

You’re FINALLY engaged, scrolling through Instagram looking at alllll of the possible wedding locations, themes, and styles, and while your heart’s set on that Italian wedding, you know that it’s not quite in your budget or realistic to have your whole family there. Or maybe you love the glam and lights of a Vegas wedding, but you can’t imagine not having all your friends and family with you.

Here’s your guide to pulling off any wedding theme in Lakes Country.

First, identify what you LOVE about that dream wedding or location. If you had your heart set on an Italian wedding – what was exciting about that? Was it the beautiful Lake Como? Or was it the old-school feeling of exposed brick and beautiful, romantic tables? If you and your partner love the look of a western wedding in the desert, think about what sticks out to you. The attire? Desert greenery? Identifying what you love about the theme will help you replicate it when planning your wedding.

Venue: When you’ve found the elements you want to recreate, look for those in your venue.

Western = barn venue with wide-open spaces for photos.

Mediterranean wedding = get married by water.

Vegas = look for a warehouse-type venue you can deck out in neon lights and disco balls.

Ask your venue what is and isn’t allowed when it comes to decorations. This will help you plan accordingly.

Decorations: Incorporate the aspects of your dream location you fell in love with. Decorations are arguably the most important part of making your dream wedding theme come to life. This is also an excellent time to start talking with your wedding planner, florist, and photographer to get their insight into what will help bring your dream location to life at home.

Invitations and stationery: Match these with your theme!! Are you trying to recreate a seaside wedding? Get a sailboat invitation suite to tie in your theme. Going for that Vegas feel? Talk to your photographer about taking your engagement photos with neon lights or disco balls, so you have photos that match your theme for save the dates!

Invitations are an excellent way for you to get creative!!

Incorporate traditions:  Do some research about wedding traditions at your dream location and work to incorporate them into your wedding day.

For example, have a dessert table that’s all Italian desserts, serve food from your dream location for dinner, play music from your dream location during your cocktail hour. All of these little details will make your theme come to life.

Attire: Find clothing that matches your theme! For example, look for a dress or suit colors inspired by your dream location.

If you’re looking for that Italian wedding look – let your bridal stylist know this when you’re shopping for dresses. They will be able to help you pull dresses that match your vibe.

For a Vegas-Glam look, go out and get all the rhinestone tuxes and attire.

If western is your thing, budget a little money to splurge on a fancy pair of boots.

All in all, just because you’re getting married close to home, it doesn’t mean you can’t design the wedding of your dreams. The sky’s the limit, and there are no rules!
