2026 wedding “ins” and “outs”

Let’s talk about what we want to see for 2026 weddings, and what we see transitioning out of wedding trends lately! As couples move into the new wedding season, they are becoming more intentional, personal, and experience-driven. The focus is less on tradition for tradition’s sake – and I am loving it!

From design choices to guest experience, here’s what is in (and out) for 2026 weddings.

The “ins” of 2026 wedding trends

1. Intimate, curated guest lists

This is where we see this micro-wedding trend again! Smaller weddings continue to reign, but with elevated intention. Read more on micro-weddings here!

  • Smaller guest counts between 30-75
  • prioritizing meaningful connections over obligation invites
  • fewer guests means more room in the budget for thoughtful details

Couples want presence, not pressure!

2. experience-first weddings

Couples getting married in 2026 care deeply about how the day feels – they want to make their day feel like an activity, and not just a party!

  • interactive food moments (chef stations, tableside service)
  • signature scents, soundscapes, and tactile details
  • cozy lounge areas and intentional flow

Guests will remember how their wedding made them feel more than how it looked.

3. Fashion-forward bridal looks

This has to be one of my favorites! 2026 Brides & Grooms are starting to really express their style and personality with their outfits.

  • second (or third!) outfits
  • non-traditional silhouettes and textures
  • statement veils, scarves, gloves, or suits

Brides & Grooms are dressing for themselves, not for expectations!

4. not picture-perfect photography

Perfect poses are out – real, authentic moments are in! I love when you can feel the emotion through the picture, like you were there in the moment with them!

  • motion blur, flash photography, and candid emotion
  • less staging, more story telling
  • photo that feel lived-in and honest

Couples want their gallery to feel like a memory, not a photoshoot.

5. meaningful personalization

Couples are incorporating details that are thoughtful, and not trendy for trend’s sake.

  • handwritten notes to guests
  • ceremonies that reflect personal values
  • custom elements with real stories behind them

This feels more personable and intentional – you can feel that the couple put in a lot of thought and effort for every single detail of their wedding!

6. elevated at-home + non traditional venues

Backyard, private estates, and unexpected spaces give 2026 couples a unique and one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

  • garden weddings, family properties, boutique inns
  • transforming spaces rather than masking them
  • leaning into the natural character of a venue

These spaces feel authentic and deeply personal to the couple.

The “outs” that 2026 couples are leaving behind

1. Overly rigid timelines

Feeling rushed on your wedding day is so overrated – 2026 couples are so done with feeling like their big day went by in a second.

  • packing every minute of the day
  • no breathing room for spontaneity

They want to soak in every second of the day, and that can’t be possible without giving yourself the time to!

2. One-size-fits-all traditions

Your wedding day is about YOU – you shouldn’t have to do something on your wedding day just because you think you have to. It is up to you on what you actually want in your wedding!

  • doing something “just because you’re supposed to”
  • traditions that don’t resonate

If it doesn’t feel meaningful, it doesn’t belong.

3. perfectly matching everything

Everything doesn’t have to be exactly matching – it’s fun to have different shades of a color, or different textures!

  • identical bridesmaid dresses
  • uniform decor with no variation

A little contrast creates depth and character.

4. over the top guest favors

2026 couples are done spending money on things that guests never end up taking home.

  • trinkets guests forget or leave behind
  • having boxes full with items the couple has no use for

Couples are going for experiences over things.

At it’s core, 2026 weddings are about connection, warmth, and authenticity. Couples are designing weddings that reflect who they are now, not what people think weddings “should” look like.

Do what feels meaningful to you – and let everything else support that!

If you are feeling overwhelmed with wedding planning, don’t worry, we’ve got your back! No matter what stage you are at in the planning process, we will help you out 🤍 Let’s chat!
